School Business Management Service

Supporting your school business management

Effective school business management has been identified as a key factor in successful schools.

We offer two levels of school business management service to meet the needs of your school.

Benefits for your organisation

The Resources for School Business Management Service brings a host of benefits to School Business Managers, Headteachers, Administrative Staff and Governors. As well as harnessing the power of networking opportunities, the low cost membership subscription offers access to exclusive resources and events.

Not all schools can afford a full time Business Manager, our On-Site School Business Manager Support Service offers packages of hours where one of our qualified and experienced members of staff can work with you to deliver your strategic priorities.

Designed to provide school staff, head teachers and governors with ease of access to resources, opportunities for networking and sharing of skills, knowledge, and expertise, our service has been developed with you in mind.

This service is provided on an annual low cost subscription basis and includes:

• A ‘themed’ school business management continuing professional development programme with events held locally and an annual event with a key note speaker

• A dedicated online resources database – The Resources Centre – which is maintained, updated and reviewed on a regular basis

The Resources Centre includes:

• Policies schedule, including example policies (LA Schools only)

• Funding sources and grants

• Process and procedure self-evaluation tools

• Information finding

• A monthly update detailing grants and external funding opportunities

• A mentors’ register of experienced school staff willing to share their skills, knowledge and experience. Mentoring support includes induction support, work shadowing opportunities and support in development projects.

In addition to the Resources for School Business Managers Service, a School Business Management On-Site Support Service is also available.

The service is based on schools purchasing a number of hours, typically between 60 and 120 hours per year, in addition to their Bursar Service, to undertake a range of strategic school business management activities within school.

Discussions with the head teacher are undertaken to identify key areas of work for the school from the ‘FMS Work Planner’ and these business management tasks are then prioritised for completion.

Typical tasks include:

• HR management

• Health and Safety and Risk management

• Procurement and Contract management

• Project management

• External funding

• Policy management

• Governance arrangements

• Marketing and Publicity

• Extended schools liaison
